Synopsis:
Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of superhero: THOR. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. Kenneth Branagh directs this fantasy epic which stars Australian actor Chris Hemsworth as the ancient Norse god, Tom Hiddleston as his evil brother Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, a young woman who befriends Thor on Earth, and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Thor’s father and king of Asgard. Expect to see agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., previously seen in ”Iron Man,” to make an appearance, further forshadowing the coming of The Avengers! ~Source: United International Pictures
My Verdict: 4.5/5
Chris Hemsworth, a body builder? |
At times I see Chris Hemsworth as a perfectly, sculpted hunk... and at other times, he's seems like an old man that badly needs a shave. His physique seems so enormous compared to his love interest on screen which was Natalie Portman. Such a tiny, young woman she is!
Overall, I loved how the charactesr in the movie has it's own distinctive attitude and contribution building up the plot of the movie. Not some airheads who just fill up up the screen and in the end, are unremembered roles. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) portrayed the evil brother just nice. And as the story plot builds up, I kinda felt sorry for him as he only wanted to gain love from his father while living in his brother's shadows for so long now. I understand that feeling. Anyone who has siblings must have felt the same way. It's a lonely life trying hard to compete for your parents' love.
Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). |
But it's nice to see that through-out his time as an outcast on earth, he kinda softened up and humbled down. That was nice to watch.
The Warriors Three; Hogun (Tadanobu Asano), Fandral (Joshua Dallas) and Volstagg (Ray Stevenson) |
And then there were the side characters. Friends of Thor that help him through thick and thin. There wasn't much scenes of them though... just only on the battlefields.
And here's my favorite character. The gate-keeper. He spoke in riddles and sometimes confused me. But he meant well. =)
Heimdall (Idris Elba) |
Another well written review can be read here.
Lastly the trailer....
This movie is certainly a must watch! My favorite Marvel movie adaptation to date.
