The dry winter season can wreak havoc on hair. Fortunately, TODAY style editor and author Bobbie Thomas is sharing the scoop on new buzz-worthy hair care that can save hair from dryness, bad color and frizz.
Cleansing conditioner
Although Chaz Dean pioneered shampoo-free cleansers with his cult favorite Wen Cleansing Conditioner, the concept now has some company. Herbal Essences' Naked Cleansing Conditioner ($6.99, walgreens.com) and Pantene's Damage Repair Cleansing Conditioner( $7.99, drugstore.com) are just two recent additions to this growing category. These products not only streamline your hair care routine with a double-duty alternative, but they also offers a more gentle sulfate-free approach resulting in softer strands.
Oil-filled flat iron
Upon its debut last month, Agave's new Healing Vapor Iron sold out in stores within days. The straightener features a cartridge that can be filled with oil, which is vaporized while straightening hair to help transform unmanageable, frizzy or kinky hair into sleek straight strands. Infrared heat energy from the iron plates helps seal in the moisture for smoother, shinier, frizz-free results. The high-tech tool comes with agave healing oil, but you can also choose to infuse with your own plant-based oil ($149, sephora.com).
Cyber color service
Approximately 75 percent of women color their hair, and many of us struggle to keep up with our roots. Launching this month, Madison Reed aims to mix things up a bit with professional grade products, and instructions that are delivered to your door. You can snap a photo of your strands and send it to a 'Color Crew' stylist who will talk you through the online process. In major cities such as New York City and San Francisco, Madison Reed will even send a colorist to you to help, with regions following soon ($24.95-$29.95, madison-reed.com).
